How to become successful in life? It is actually simple than you think. This is my story.
My name is Arlene Allison. I am an ordained Christian minister, and have been doing missionary work for over fifteen years. I grew up very poor and was living in remote mountainous places on the island of Cebu, Philippines. My parents could not send me to school because my father had gotten very sick when I was very young.
My mother did all she could to feed my brother and I daily. So I had no choice but to help my mother earn money to buy food when I was only nine years old and my brother was eight. I worked in the sugar cane farm pulling weed for the equivalent of fifty cents a day. That was thirty years ago.
At that age I realized I had to do better to not stay in that poor condition. Literally there were days when all we ate was a handful of cornmeal mixed in a lot of water and some vegetables in a pot and made soup out of it and that was the kind of food my family and I ate almost everyday. Some other times we just ate bananas or sweet potatoes.
Realizing the severity of the situation I had to get off the mountain and offered myself to work as a nanny and house maid for a family under one condition; no salary just send me to school at night. So I ended up working like that and studied hard as a working student until I finished high school.
Later in life I met my husband and he helped me get my education in Theology. My mission then started by helping the children learn the love of God and His Word and the purpose of life. I also shared with them my stories. So many of them are grown now and have their own families.
I continue to share my stories and encourage others how to overcome the struggles of life by having a positive outlook and change their lives for the better by having a grateful attitude in every circumstance. The faithfulness of God and His saving grace has compelled me to share my stories to hopefully help others know that there is a loving God who cares for all of us.
