But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows Luke 12:7
There is no question that the worst enemy a person can have is fear. This is a very unpleasant emotion caused by a belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or threat.
Having fear is constantly in a mood of terror, fright, horror, alarm, panic, agitation, dread, dismay, distress, anxiety, worry, unease, nervous, unrest, doubt and suspicion.
A lot of times our fears causes us not to accomplish anything much in life. A lot of times good opportunities are wasted for the fear of doing it. Like for example going on adventures, travel to different countries, exploring new ideas and work.
I remember when I was just a kid I was afraid of ghosts. Suspicious beliefs caused me to be fearful most of the time especially at night. I was afraid of the dark nights and a lot of times had nightmares. It was really awful.
There are so many reasons why people have fear. The world we live in now doesn’t offer much hope. Fear is increasing and many are destroyed by it. Friends we can reverse this emotions. It’s not an easy thing to do but God’s word is effective.
Let me ask you a few questions. What are your biggest fears? And how do you intend to overcome from it?
Here are my biggest fears in the past. I was always afraid of dying. I was afraid to do anything because it might lead me to hurt myself or die. I was afraid of the unseen things through the naked eyes. I know there are spirits around us that we can’t see. I was afraid that the bad spirits would hurt me.
How did I overcome my fears?
I started having a closer relationship with God. I started reading His words in the Bible. I learned how important I am and all of us to Him. I learned how powerful He is and yet so loving. I learned how He cares for me and you. I learned how He conquered my worst fear which is death. I learned how He fights for me and most especially I learned that no matter what happens in this life, He will always be with me.
Knowing God’s word and His promises gives me assurance, calmness and confidence in life. I gained confidence to face and tackle my fears daily. And accomplished many tasks that I thought I couldn’t do. Having the confidence in God over my fears lead me to go to many places and countries sharing my testimony to others. I can just keep on and on telling you what a difference God’s words and promises has made in my life.
The Arlene who was very timid and nervous to do anything is now someone who will stand up to her enemies like King David. Oh, I am certainly not boasting about my own confidence, I am proud of the confidence I have in God. Because I realize now more than ever that without God I am nothing.
I will leave you with this promise from the word of God which is very close to my heart. This has been my refuge every time when I was facing difficult situations in my life. I pray that this will give you comfort and peace, joy and happiness to overcome your enemy as well which is fear.
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor the arrow that flies by day. Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place. No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands, they shall bear you up, lest you dash against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation. “
