The power of prayer. Do you believe that there is power in prayer? Yes, by simply talking to God and acknowledging His presence in your life is powerful enough to fight your battles. Have you accepted the Lord Jesus in your heart? Then you are given the guarantee of His presence through the Holy Spirit. Once the Holy Spirit dwells in us, we have the presence of God to guide us and lead us. Helping us go through situations that would otherwise be too much for us to carry alone.
The Power Of Prayer
“What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
(Romans 8:31, KJV)
God longs to have an intimate, a personal relationship with each one of us. We do not always recognize this because of our carnal minds. We rationalize the thought of why would a God of the whole universe want to have a close relationship with His creations?
We can not fully comprehend this thought, but to know that the God of the universe would want to have a personal relationship with each one of His creations is pretty special. God is a Spirit.
Attributes of God:
- He is omnipotent (all-powerful)
- He omniscient (all-knowing) and
- He omnipresent (all-present).
God is all-powerful having a supreme power. This means God can do what He wants. He is not subject to physical limitations like man is. Being omnipotent, God has power over wind, water, gravity, physics, and so many other things. God’s power is infinite, or limitless.
God is all-knowing in the sense that he is aware of the past, present, and future. Nothing takes him by surprise. His knowledge is total. He knows all that there is to know and all that can be known. God is also all-present meaning that He is capable of being everywhere at the same time. It means His divine presence encompasses the whole of the universe. There is no location where he does not inhabit. This should not be confused with pantheism, which suggests that God is synonymous with the universe itself; instead, omnipresence indicates that God is distinct from the universe, but inhabits the entirety of it. He is everywhere at once.
Just think of God with all of His power and having all and knowing all would want to be with you. And love you so much that He is just waiting for you to call on Him. But, He will never kick the door of your heart. Oh no! He is too sensitive for that. Just like in any relationship, God wants it both ways too. He loves you and now it is up to you to love Him back. Whether you do or not it does not change God’s love for you. He already made up His mind to love us anyway despite our rebellious ways. In fact He demonstrated His own love for us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8, NIV).
Through the sacrifice and death of the Lord Jesus on the cross, God made a way for us to be reconciled to Him from our sinful ways. On our own ability we all have fallen short from the glory of God. Romans 3:23 KJV-“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” And wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23 KJV). God in His mercy and grace who loves us so much made a perfect sacrifice for us.
He did so that, we would not have to suffer hell, if we accept His offer of salvation for us through the Lord Jesus. In John 3:16 KJV it says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This is how much God loves us. He gave His only Son, to save us from our sin. All we need to do is to believe in the redemptive sacrifice and death of Christ on the cross. Then we should repent of our sins and turn away from it.
There is not enough work we can do to earn our way to heaven. It is through faith in Christ alone. On our own we deserve death as a penalty for our sins, but God gives us mercy that He took it upon Himself to send His Son Jesus to die for us so we can have an eternal life with Him. God’s word is clear that whosoever would believe in the Son of God and His death and resurrection will not perish, but have eternal life with Him. On the other hand if the person refuses to believe and accept the offer of God, they are condemned already, John 3:17-18 NIV says-“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whosoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”
So we all have a choice to make, if we want to spend eternal life with God in heaven believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. Or refuse to do so and you already stand condemned because you have not believed on the one that God sent to deliver you from your sin.
Having the Lord Jesus Christ in my life has been the best decision I have ever made. He has proven His power and His grace to deliver me from so many trials and difficulties in this life. I now know that when I called Him Papa Jesus when I was just a little girl He heard me. And He not only heard me, but also answered me. I have seen God’s grace working throughout my life over and over again.
Does having Him in my life make me perfect? Not in the least! I still make mistakes every now and then, but His grace overrides my mistakes and forgives me when I ask His forgiveness every time I mess up. My faith in Christ is what has reconciled me back to God from my sins. When we ask for God’s forgiveness He is faithful to forgive us. 1 John 1:9 KJV-“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Our enemy the devil will keep reminding us of our sins and past mistakes, because that is what he is, an accuser of God’s people. But once we have the Lord Jesus Christ in our hearts, He is our advocate and who made us righteous before a Holy God. We can be confident that no one and nothing can separate us from the love of God. We can rest assured that when we talk to God He hears our prayers, our requests and supplications.
Our faith in Christ is what makes our prayers answered. It is not the many repeated words without really understanding and knowing who answers prayers. Our relationship with God is cultivated as we spend time in prayer, simply by talking to God, heart to heart. God knowing everything already about us knows exactly how to meet our needs, but we must spend time with Him, ask, and trust Him completely.
The power of prayer is not achieved by how many words we say or how many hours we are on our knees praying, but through faith and complete trust in Christ Jesus. And when we pray we should not doubt that we will receive what we are praying and asking for.
The person who asks God for one thing and believes shall receive.
But the person who asks God for something and doubts will probably never receive what they are asking for, because they are double minded. Do not get me wrong, God already knows what we need even before we ask Him. But when we acknowledge God for who He is and the one who supplies our needs, then God will open the door of His blessings for us. But when a person who approaches God with doubt in mind if God would even answer, then it is not a matter of whether or not God will answer, but the condition of the person’s heart.
Another factor about the power of prayer, is by acknowledging the fact that God is limitless. A lot of times when we pray our minds and hearts limit God of what and how much He can do. Some people have this idea that God is in the box, where He is powerful enough but only up to a point. It is like they will take God out of the box when they need something and then put Him back in when they want to do their own thing and have God out of the way. Well it does not work that way. There is not a space big enough to put God in. He is absolutely infinite! He is limitless or endless in space, extent, or size; impossible to measure or calculate. And the amazing thing about it is that God’s love, mercy and grace is boundless.
Don’t you just love God so much for the way He is? Unfortunately, there are some who refuse to believe this truth and therefore suffer the bondage of unbelief and the consequences thereof. I absolutely marvel at God’s love for us. I am in awe of His amazing grace that keeps running after us until we get reconciled back to Him through faith in the Lord Jesus.
I have seen so much of God’s amazing grace working in my own life and my family. Day after day, I can see His amazing grace working in the lives of people around me. Unless we come to a complete surrender to God, we will never be able to understand His love and grace working in our lives. God is just waiting for each one of us to fully surrender our lives to His Lordship. And when we do, He will fill our lives with His goodness and show us His faithfulness in His Word.
I have made my decision and have surrendered my life to the Lord Jesus Christ several years ago, and I am not turning back. It was the best decision I have ever made in my life! Have you ever made that decision yet? Have you accepted the Lord Jesus in your heart? Do you believe that He came and was crucified and died on the cross as a ransom for your sin? Yet, He rose again from the dead, so that your faith is not in vain. If you have already accepted Him in your heart, I praise God for your decision.
But, if you have not made the decision yet, I urge you to not wait any longer, but to do it as soon as possible, because your time here on earth is ticking and you may not be around to take your last breath tomorrow. The Bible says that when you hear the word of God do not harden your heart. Today is your day of salvation. The Lord Jesus is coming back soon, but not as a Savior anymore, but as Judge. He will come to judge the wickedness of this world.
Right now He is our Savior, He is still in the saving business to those who believe and accept His offer of salvation. But those who refuse to accept Him now will one day open their eyes and be judged in condemnation to go to hell for eternity.I was really shattered when I heard someone say that there is no God or that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross was not true. I personally know and believe in my heart that there is God and that the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus on the cross is true.
Now I will leave this one question: Just say that you do not believe God exists and the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross was not true. When you die and open your eyes and find out that it is really true, what will you lose? Everything! If you are not planning on spending your soul in hell for eternity I encourage you with the mercies of God to repent and receive God’s offer of salvation by sincerely praying in your heart the prayer guide below. John 14:6-Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father but by me.” Ephesians 2:8-9 says: “For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite you to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior. I believe your Word that you are the way, the truth, and the life and that no man comes unto the Father but by you Lord Jesus. I believe that it is not by good works either that I can be saved but by faith in you Lord Jesus. Thank you for saving me, and I ask that you guide me and help me in my life with you. Show me the way to live my life that will glorify your name. I surrender my life to you completely and thank you for the love, grace and mercy upon me. In your precious name Jesus I pray, Amen.

I love that you mention God is not the universe, which many get confused with. He is the creator of the universe so instead of worshipping what he has made, we must focus on worshipping who made it – God. Beautiful article filled with so much gems !:) Sending love your way.
Thanks for your feedback Tracy. I appreciate it very much.
